The Flight pt.2 (HEL-SVO)

7.11.2014

Thanks for the twin beds!

Finally the day we really get going, we woke up at 8am for breakfast and we were super tired. Last night we slept for maybe total of 3 hours, must've been the excitement.

After the breakfast the airport taxi was waiting for us in front of the hotel at 10pm.
At the airport it was raining sleet and we were freezing after we wet our shoes yet again.
Lax wasn't too happy to jump in the kennel, I think she thought we were just going to run around the airport for another day. After yesterday she took it guite well anyways.
First customs checked Lax's kennel for contraband (bombs, drugs etc) and then we said our goodbyes and they started to board her and the rest of our baggage in.

After this we desided that we had earned ourselves drinks at the airport bar... BAD IDEA when there's only 35 minutes to boarding, your plane is leaving from the other end of the airport AND the boarding gate had changed to an even further one!
We got to the passport control when they were giving us last calls on the intercom and we ran like hell, but we did get to the gate just before they closed it. They even called us a private airport bus to take us to our plane. We made it on time and didn't even delay the takeoff.
We're talking about minutes that Lax would've gone to Thailand on her own, that was TOO CLOSE!
(Do yourself a favor and allow 2-3hours at the airport when travelling with a dog)

The plane finally took off and we grinned to all the sleet and the cold, bye bye Finland!

The infamous nearly trip-killing drinks

During the two hour flight we got served with coffee and a joke of a sandwhich. No butter (something we could live with), a pickel that had never seen any taste (or pickel) and a tiny bit of salad. It had some sort of chicken-ish thing in it too.
Rest of the flight went good, tho at the landing Milla's operated ears started hurting wery much for the pressure, even that she had ventilated pressure earplugs (from the pharmacy, about 15€)

Yummy bread!

A bit cloudy in Finland?

When we landed to Moskov SVO -airport, the connecting flight was easy to find, even tho we landed in terminal D, and our connecting flight left from F. It was just straight walk from passport control to a semi negligent security check.
Before the flight I was worried about finding our way through the big ass airport of Moskov. I had heard horror stories of nothing working in there, but all that was false, or at least been fixed.

The terminal we landed in SVO

Our departure terminal in SVO

We found our gate and after that we went to ask the connecting flight help desk if Lax had made it safe to Moskov. The lady in the desk was really helpful and nice, she told us that she have a small chihuahua and was happy that we had took our family member on the trip with us. Oh, and Lax was in Moskov too!
A little reminder for those who smoke, there's no smoking booths or anything in SVO terminals in Moskov, so stack up on nicotine substitutes or just deal with it. Our 4,5hour wait could've been easier if we've had the chance to suck up on fresh air or cigarette smoke.

Ventilated pressure earplugs from the  pharmacy,
if you suffer from ear pain during flight, you might want to try these!
